Walsall 1-2 Scunthorpe United

Lee Novak's 10th League One goal of the season handed Scunthorpe a fourth successive victory as the Iron won at out-of-form Walsall.

Novak's cool finish lifted United to 15th, leapfrogging Walsall, who dropped to 16th, having won just one of their past 12 league matches.

Scunthorpe led after 12 minutes as midfielder Funso Ojo stole in unmarked to volley home Tony McMahon's floated corner from around 15 yards.

The only other chance of a poor first half came seven minutes later as Iron keeper Jak Alnwick tipped Walsall top scorer Andy Cook's 18-yard strike wide.

However, right-back Nicky Devlin brought Walsall level with a superb goal in the 53rd minute, surging past two men into the area and beating another before lashing past Alnwick.

Scunthorpe regained the lead after 68 minutes as George Thomas' weighted pass freed Novak to dink a clever finish over Walsall keeper Liam Roberts.

The Saddlers never threatened a second leveller as their winless run stretched to seven games in all competitions.
