Bristol Rovers 2-2 Peterborough United

  • Published

Tom Nichols netted against his old club to help League One strugglers Bristol Rovers earn a draw with play-off chasers Peterborough at the Memorial Stadium.

The home side took an eighth-minute lead when Nichols found the top corner with a well-struck penalty after being brought down by Rhys Bennett following a strong solo run down the right.

Peterborough were level after 37 minutes through Ivan Toney, who latched onto a through-ball from Lee Tomlin. With Rovers appealing for offside he rounded Jack Bonham, recovering his balance to score after the goalkeeper had dived at his feet.

Just before the break Rovers went ahead again. Alex Rodman's shot was blocked, but with Posh keeper Conor O'Malley off his line, Ollie Clarke netted with a right-footed chip from outside the box.

The second half produced fewer chances, but Peterborough grabbed a deserved point in the last minute of normal time when Joe Ward ran onto a pass from fellow substitute Siriki Dembele to bury an unstoppable 30-yard shot past Bonham.
