Bayern Munich suffered a crushing defeat against Eintracht Frankfurt after the German champions had Jerome Boateng sent-off after nine minutes.

Filip Kostic and Djibril Sow put the hosts 2-0 ahead, but Robert Lewandowski responded for Niko Kovac' side with his 14th league goal of the campaign.

David Abraham made it 3-1 shortly after half-time, before Martin Hinteregger and Goncalo Paciencia added the gloss.

Defeat leaves Bayern four points behind leaders Borussia Monchengladbach.

RB Leipzig's 8-0 thrashing of Mainz and Borussia Dortmund's 3-0 win over Wolfsburg also see Niko Kovac's side slip to fourth.

Bayern faced an uphill battle after Boateng was dismissed for bringing down Paciencia following a swift Frankfurt counter.

Despite their numerical disadvantage Bayern enjoyed 61% of the possession, and Lewandowski's 20th goal in all competitions this season offered an unlikely lifeline at the interval.

But a direct and clinical Frankfurt side dismantled their tiring opponents in the second half - and the score would have looked even more emphatic had it not been for some fine goalkeeping by Manuel Neuer.
