Sonny Carey's late goal ensured National League side King's Lynn Town knocked out League Two Port Vale in the FA Cup first round.

The Linnets were playing in the first round for the first time after receiving a bye when Notts County pulled out because of Covid-19.

Ian Culverhouse's side did well to keep Port Vale pegged back as David Worrall almost got the hosts off the mark.

But Carey's left-footed strike in the closing stages earned them victory.

Formed in 2010, King's Lynn Town's previous record of progression in the FA Cup had seen them reach the fourth qualifying round on three occasions.

The victory continues a memorable 2020 for the club, who won promotion from the National League South earlier this year, and means they are just one win from the third-round stage.
