Wrexham 0-0 Chesterfield: Draw sees Spireites drop out of play-offs
Chesterfield dropped out of the National League play-offs after a draw at promotion rivals Wrexham.
The stalemate hurt both sides' chances, as Bromley claimed an away win to leapfrog the pair into sixth.
Chesterfield's Kairo Mitchell was denied by a fine Rob Lainton save, before Nathan Tyson shot straight at the keeper and then missed a sitter.
Gold Omotayo had earlier gone close for Wrexham but was unable to poke home in a near-post scramble.
Wrexham are now seventh, a point behind Bromley, with the Spireites a further point and place behind - although with a game in hand on the four sides directly above them.
But it could have been worse, as Notts County also seemed set to move above Wrexham and Chesterfield only to concede a 98th-minute equaliser at Torquay United, who were down to 10 men at the time.
Wrexham manager Dean Keates said:
"We were poor, we'll look at ourselves but I think it was probably a fair result.
"Our quality in the final third just wasn't there, where it has been in the last two games (both 4-0 wins).
"Yeah, it was frustrating but it's another clean sheet and we'll look forward to Solihull next week."
