Craig Wighton's second-half brace secured victory for Dunfermline Athletic

Dunfermline Athletic confirmed their place in the Scottish Championship promotion play-off quarter-final with a thrilling 4-3 win over Arbroath.

Stevie Crawford's side raced into a 2-0 lead thanks to a Declan McManus' penalty and Kevin O'Hara's strike.

Two goals in two minutes from Jack Hamilton and Nicky Low pegged the hosts back inside the first half, however.

Craig Wighton's brace restored the two-goal advantage, but Scott Stewart's late effort ensured a nervy ending.

The result leaves Arbroath in danger of falling into the Championship relegation play-off should they lose to Greenock Morton on the final day and Ayr United better their result in their match with Inverness Caledonian Thistle.

Dunfermline cannot finish second, but could finish third above Dundee should they beat the already-relegated Alloa Athletic on the final day and James McPake's side lose to Queen of the South.

Dunfermline manager Stephen Crawford: "It was our objective at the start of the season, the boys have showed resilience, desire and quality. I'm delighted."

Arbroath manager Dick Campbell: "I don't think anybody would have denied us a draw, a draw would have been a fair result for me. I'm proud of my players you can see the fighting spirit in my team."
