Two goals from Emil Riis Jakobsen helped Preston North End to victory over League One Morecambe in round two of the Carabao Cup.

The 22-year-old Dane gave the visitors the lead after just seven minutes at the Mazuma Stadium, before doubling the advantage later in the first half.

Morecambe hit back to level through Anthony O'Connor and Cole Stockton.

But goals from Ryan Ledson and then Sepp van den Berg with 10 minutes to go put the match beyond the hosts.

Riis Jakobsen, who signed for Championship side Preston last October, took little time to get going.

He got on the end of a high ball forward from captain Daniel Johnson, and in behind two defenders to calmly slot the ball away for his first of the night.

Then, when visiting keeper Jokull Andresson clashed with his own defender inside the Morecambe box, Riis Jakobsen was quickest to react and make it 2-0.

O'Connor gave the hosts hope of a comeback deep in first-half injury time, pulling one back from Greg Leigh's free-kick, before Stockton's right-footed strike levelled matters.

But, just three minutes later, a half-volley from Ledson put Preston back in the lead and 19-year-old Dutch defender Van den Berg, on loan from Liverpool, secured the win with a simple tap-in.

Morecambe manager Stephen Robinson:

"The performance was top-class and I don't think anyone would have known who was the Championship side and who was in League One but ultimately we conceded four goals and lost the game which is what matters.

"There were a lot of positives and we made them work hard but we are disappointed not to have won the game."

Preston North End manager Frankie McAvoy:

"It was a magnificent cup tie and every credit to Morecambe for pulling it back to 2-2. Our lads could have dropped their heads because when they got their second they were really putting us under pressure.

"But we stepped up and Ryan Ledson scored a magnificent goal to put us ahead again and then we worked a terrific fourth after a great move.

"Even then Morecambe kept coming. But we stood up to be counted and that was really pleasing."
