Dundee booked their place in the last eight of the Scottish League Cup with a comfortable win over League 1 Falkirk at Dens Park.

Lyall Cameron slid in the opener 10 minutes after the break following a lively first half.

Lee Ashcroft headed in the Championship side's second goal, before Falkirk's Gary Oliver was sent off for handling the ball on the goal line.

Zach Robinson converted the resulting penalty as Dundee cruised through.

Gary Bowyer's side were more threatening in the first half, with Robinson forcing a good save from Falkirk goalkeeper Nicky Hogarth, before being denied by a last-ditch Craig McGuffie block.

Cammy Kerr then fired into the side netting for Dundee, before Falkirk came close to breaking the deadlock when Ashcroft's clearance struck his own post.

But after Cameron slid in ahead of the advancing Hogarth to prod the ball in to the net, Dundee never looked back.

Ashcroft's bullet header effectively ended Falkirk's challenge, before Oliver was dismissed in the last minute of the 90, after blocking Jordan McGhee's shot with his hand.

Robinson converted calmly to confirm Dundee's spot in Wednesday's draw.

Dundee manager Gary Bowyer: "We're delighted to get through. Falkirk were terrific first half especially but we were better second half and got the goals from some hard work."

Falkirk manager John McGlynn: "I thought we acquitted ourselves fairly well. A bit disappointed in the first goal we lost. I thought we were in the game until that, despite not creating an awful lot. It looks like it's a doing but it wasn't."
