Scunthorpe United 1-3 Wrexham: Dragons see off Iron to go top of the table
Wrexham took over at the top of the National League as Ollie Palmer, Aaron Hayden and Paul Mullin goals saw them to victory at Scunthorpe United.
Palmer's scuffed shot gave Wrexham the lead after Mullin refused to give up the chase on the right, winning possession before crossing.
Luke Young teed up Hayden for a towering header to double the lead.
Jai Rowe hit back for Scunthorpe, but Mullin added a third from close range after being set up by Callum McFadzean.
Previous leaders Notts County had left the door ajar the previous evening after being held to a 2-2 draw at Southend United, themselves showing promotion form and in the play-off places.
The defeat keeps Scunthorpe in the relegation places on goal difference below Yeovil Town, who grabbed a point on Tuesday at home to Maidenhead United.
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson:
"I'm delighted with the win and I thought we started really well in the first half, scored two and really could have had four or five but their keeper has made some great saves.
"Then they get a goal with their first real attempt and I felt second half that goal probably lifted them for 10-15 minutes, but we weathered that little period and then we played with real quality and created numerous chances.
"It gets us on the coach top of the league... bouncing down to Wealdstone on Friday [to play Saturday]."
