Wycombe Wanderers boss Matt Bloomfield has signed a contract extension at the League One club.

The 39-year-old took over in February on an undisclosed-length deal following the departure of long-serving Gareth Ainsworth to Queens Park Rangers.

He guided the Chairboys to a ninth-placed finish last season and has them in 10th spot this term.

Chairman Rob Couhig said the club had made "tremendous strides" since the former Colchester boss took charge.

He added he had "no doubt" Bloomfield was the right choice to replace Ainsworth and had "proven himself to be extremely talented in all of the responsibilities that come with the role".

Couhig said the contract extension was for "one more year".

"He has constructed a first-rate team of staff around him and we were wholly impressed with their recruitment and the work they did over the summer to build a team that would suit the style of play that Matt and his coaches believe is the right way forward,"

"The team has made tremendous strides in a short time and we are excited for the future with Matt at the helm, so we wanted to make sure we secured an extension to his contract."

Wycombe visit Bradford City in the first round of the FA Cup on Saturday.
