Dillon De Silva put Torquay in front against Tonbridge Angels

Torquay United boss Gary Johnson has praised the attitude of his side after they were 2-1 winners over Tonbridge Angels in National League South.

Dillon De Silva's early goal for the Gulls was cancelled out by Francis Mampolo shortly before the hour mark.

But Brad Ash put the Gulls back in front just three minutes later as Torquay moved up to fifth in the table.

"Getting that goal straight after was typical of the attitude we asked them to go out with," Johnson said.

"It was a great result, in any league when you're playing a team that can go above you they come with extra effort because they know the prize is big.

"We came through it and there were some good performances and it was a great win and a great three points."

The win was Torquay's third in four matches as they closed to within three points of second-placed Hampton and Richmond, although leaders Yeovil Town are eight points ahead with a game in hand.

"We're in a good position now," he added to 大象传媒 Radio Devon.

"We've had a good little few weeks and we look forward to Tuesday's game at home and hope to see our supporters in force and come and support the lads.

"The next couple of wins will put you in a very strong position leading up to Christmas."
