Cardiff boss Erol Bulut consoles his players after their previous loss to Hull

Manager Erol Bulut wants his Cardiff City team to make a "new start" after holding a meeting with the squad this week to address their recent poor form.

The Bluebirds were in the Championship play-off places at the end of October.

But Cardiff have slipped to 12th in the table after losing four of their last five games, and go to a struggling Sheffield Wednesday side on Saturday looking to get back to winning ways.

"We have to change things, I hope it'll be a new start for us," said Bulut.

"We had really good results, the team was going well and maybe because of those results - and that we were a few times in the play-off positions - maybe we relaxed.

"Maybe we were more comfortable but I have said, we cannot feel comfortable until the end of the season.

"We are good but we have to keep it that way, so that's why we had a meeting."

Cardiff go to the second-bottom Owls looking to close the six-point gap between themselves and the top six.

"Of course everybody wants to be up there," Bulut added.

"We're still pushing my players, we have to push, but now is the moment that we have to make a new start to win games to get our performances back again."

January sales

Bulut is also focused on adding to his squad in January, with the club now able to buy players again after being under an embargo for the last two windows.

But he admits his plans will be dictated by what budget the club will give him.

"Every transfer window is a way to put quality players in the team to push maybe for more to keep the level," Bulut said.

"A lot of it is about finance, economics, and I think our chairman Mehmet Dalman is managing this well.

"I can speak only about what kind of players we need and how many players we need to push to stay at the level where we've been before.

"If you ask any manager about players, I can give you quite a good list with good names, this is not difficult.

"It's important if it's possible for Cardiff City to do it or not."
