Hartlepool United have sacked manager John Askey after a sixth National League game without a win.

Askey, who had been in charge of the club since February, has seen his side pick up only three wins in their past 19 league games and drop to 17th place after losing at Oldham Athletic.

He succeeded Keith Curle as manager but could not stop the club being relegated from League Two in May.

Askey's assistant Mark Goodlad has also left the club.

"This decision wasn't an easy one to make, but we feel it's necessary following our recent downturn in form," chairman Raj Singh told the club website.

"We thank John and Mark for their efforts during their time at Hartlepool, and wish them the best of luck for their future endeavours."

The club has yet to decide who will take interim charge of the club, who host Oxford City on Saturday, 6 January.
