Yusifu Ceesay's 37th-minute penalty sealed a 2-0 win for Hereford against Torquay

Torquay United boss Gary Johnson admitted his side were second best in their 2-0 FA Trophy loss at Hereford.

The National League North side scored twice in the first half to knock the Gulls out in the fourth round.

The defeat meant Torquay have failed to win any of their past four matches in all competitions - a run stretching back almost a month.

"They were the better side on the day, they had some good players and our good players didn't show," Johnson said.

"We're disappointed that they were the better side on the day.

"When we get a bigger squad to choose from then we'll have a different group of first-team players."

Striker Duane Ofori-Acheampong returned to Torquay last week after almost a decade away

But Johnson's first-team group has taken a blow after new signing Duane Ofori-Acheampong was forced off.

The 31-year-old former Braintree, Dartford and Woking striker returned to Torquay nine-and-a-half years after first signing for the club.

"He went off for a sprint in the first minute and he just felt his hamstring," Johnson explained to 大象传媒 Radio Devon.

"Sometimes that can be down to excitement of going into a game that you're really looking forward to.

"He sees it as unfinished business here at Torquay and he loved the club, he was disappointed to have left a few years ago and he was so looking forward to being a part of it.

"We don't know if it's a bad hamstring yet, we'll have to wait and assess it on Monday, but he's a very disappointed and upset lad in there at the minute."
