Boss Paul Warne fears Derby County's promotion hopes will be at risk if they fail to improve after Tuesday's defeat by Charlton Athletic.

Relegation-threatened Charlton came from behind to beat second-placed Derby 2-1 at Pride Park.

Defeat consigned Derby to back-to-back League One losses for the first time this season, having been beaten at Barnsley on Saturday.

"It isn't a performance of a team that is going to get promoted," Warne said.

"And isn't the level of performance that we expect.

"We have shot ourselves in the foot no end of times this season at home, more so than away from home."

The loss was Derby's fourth in the league at home this season - only one side in the top seven has suffered more home defeats this season.

Derby were also knocked out of the FA Cup, Carabao Cup and Bristol Street Motors Trophy on home soil this season.

Despite Tuesday's loss, Derby remain in the automatic promotion spots after third-placed Bolton Wanderers - who are equal on points, but have a game in hand on the Rams - were beaten at Wigan Athletic.

Eiran Cashin had put Derby ahead in the first half, but goalkeeper Joe Wildsmith brought down Daniel Kanu in the box to allow Alfie May to level from the penalty spot for Charlton in the 65th minute.

Teenager Karoy Anderson then scored a late winner to shock the high-flyers.

"If we are going to be successful we have to be better and have to play better, because if we find ourselves in the play-offs, that level of performance isn't going to get you through," Warne told ����ý Radio Derby.

"We haven't been in amazing form, that is true, but we also know in the last 10 or 15 games you are not going to win all of them.

"And you are not going to play at your best, but you still have to pick up points."
