Exeter City impressed as they beat fierce Devon rivals Plymouth Argyle 5-1 in their Women's FA Cup second-round tie.

Exeter skipper Bow Jackson cleared Charlotte Whitmore's effort off the line to keep the game goalless midway through the first half before Mollie Taylor headed City ahead shortly before half-time.

Sophie Gillies made it 2-0 six minutes after the restart before Sarah Stacey scored twice and Georgie Barbour-Gresham headed in a fifth with 12 minutes to go.

Charlotte Whitmore blasted in an excellent long-range effort to give the crowd at Home Park something to cheer in stoppage time.

"I thought we were excellent, second half especially we stepped it up, we showed what we were about," Exeter City assistant manager George Robinson told 大象传媒 Radio Devon.

"I think we did struggle to get to the pace of the game for the first 15 minutes, but I think once we got the pace of the game we looked really strong, so really happy."

Plymouth Argyle manager Ryan Perks added: "I thought first 35 minutes we were the better team, probably the only thing missing was the crucial goal.

"We had one cleared off the line and probably should have scored a couple from set-pieces, but as soon as Exeter scored the first I think we were poor, I thought we crumbled."

Exeter City will host Worthing in the third round on 8 December.
