Northampton Town have signed former Manchester United and Port Vale striker James Wilson and ex-AFC Wimbledon goalkeeper Nik Tzanev on one-year deals.

Wilson came through as a youngster at Old Trafford and scored twice on his debut in the Premier League in 2014 but left the Red Devils five years later after a succession of loan moves.

The 28-year-old, who has a further 12-month option on his Northampton deal, spent three seasons with Port Vale and scored 23 goals in 105 appearances before being released following their relegation from League One last term.

"He has an excellent pedigree and is a good age," Northampton boss Jon Brady told

"He has undoubted quality and is a little different to the players we have in the squad. He can play up front or in behind the strikers, he is technically very good and a very intelligent player."

Tzanev, 27, is a New Zealand international and made 126 appearances during seven years with Wimbledon.

"Nik will come in to complement, support and challenge Lee Burge and his arrival strengthens and adds a little more experience to our goalkeeping department," said Brady.

Northampton will start the new season with a trip to Bristol Rovers on 10 August after finishing 10th in 2023-24.
