Wrexham 'recharged' ahead of Rotherham test
Wrexham manager Phil Parkinson says his players are "recharged" after the international break - even though they were keen to continue with their impressive form of late.
The Dragons are currently second in League One, two points behind leaders Birmingham City and had their contest with Lincoln City on 12 October postponed due to international call-ups within the Imps' squad.
鈥淥bviously we didn鈥檛 want the break, we were in good form, the games were called off so you quickly switch to how we can utilise the break,鈥 Parkinson said.
鈥淎fter the game against Wolves (EFL Trophy) we trained on Wednesday, had a really good session then we gave the lads an extended weekend off.
"For the players and the staff it was good to have that to recharge the batteries mentally and physically and the players have come back in good shape this week.鈥
Saturday's trip to Rotherham United represents the start of another busy period for Wrexham - who have three games in seven days.
Following the trip to the New York Stadium on Saturday to face Steve Evans鈥 side, they host Huddersfield Town next Tuesday before another away game against Charlton Athletic, and Parkinson is looking forward to see how his team compete against three strong sides.
鈥淚t鈥檚 a good week for us, an exciting one for us in terms of profile,鈥 he added.
鈥淚鈥檝e come up against Steve (Evans) many times, obviously his teams are always really competitive, he did a great job at Stevenage over the last couple of years, now he鈥檚 gone back to his old club.
鈥淥ver the last 10 years they鈥檝e been top end League One or bottom end Championship, so it鈥檚 another good benchmark for us.
"They鈥檝e picked up recently but we go there in good form and in a good frame of mind and the players feel they鈥檙e ready.鈥
Before his side's 2-0 defeat by Birmingham City in September, Evans said: "We've not played the Harlem Globetrotters, who will turn up when Parky (Phil Parkinson) brings Wrexham here with the stars that come with the ownership there.鈥
Responding to Evans' comments, Parkinson said: 鈥淚f Steve described us as that, then that鈥檚 fine.
鈥淲e do kind of bring a profile to any game but I think there鈥檚 an expectancy at Rotherham as well.
鈥淲hen we鈥檝e gone to teams in League Two or the National League, it鈥檚 like 'Wrexham have come to town', it鈥檚 a packed house, people come to see Wrexham.
"I don鈥檛 see that as much in Rotherham, there鈥檚 huge expectancy from their supporters to be top of the league.鈥
