Swansea City have signed Slovenia striker Zan Vipotnik on a four-year contract following the mutual termination of his contract with Bordeaux.

The French club recently accepted relegation to the third tier and renounced their professional status following significant financial issues.

Player contracts were subsequently terminated as part of a cost-saving measure at the club.

That has allowed Vipotnik, 22, to secure a switch to the Swans on a free transfer.

The 10-cap Slovenia international featured as a substitute during his side's 1-1 draw with Serbia at Euro 2024 in June.

He scored 10 goals in 37 Ligue 2 appearances for Bordeaux during his sole season in the south west of France.

Following his departure from Bordeaux - who he joined from Maribor in 2023 - Vipotnik wrote on social media: "Heartbroken to say goodbye under these circumstances.

"My time at Bordeaux has been nothing short of incredible, thanks to this amazing club and the passionate fans who welcomed me with open arms.

"It's devastating to see the club facing such challenges, but I believe in the spirit of Bordeaux and I know it will rise again.

"Until we meet again."

The signing is a major boost for Swansea, who are desperately thin on forward options following the departures of Jamal Lowe and Jerry Yates this summer - the latter joining Derby County on loan.

Academy product Liam Cullen and Ukrainian Mykola Kuharevich are the only other senior frontmen at the club - although the latter is attracting transfer interest from Hibernian.

Swansea remain in the market for at least one winger and a central defender, while injuries to certain members of the squad could also mean further additions are required before the summer transfer deadline.

Luke Williams' side begin their 2024-25 Championship campaign against Middlesbrough at the Riverside Stadium on Saturday, 10 August.

Vipotnik is set to travel to Wales next week to link up with his new team-mates ahead of that game.
