Charlton Athletic have signed midfielder Luke Berry after his recent release by Luton Town.

Berry, 31, has signed a two-year contract with the League One club and the deal includes the option of an additional 12 months.

Luton opted not to trigger an extension option in Berry's contract, enabling him to move on a free transfer after seven years at Kenilworth Road.

Charlton's former Luton boss Nathan Jones signed Berry for the Hatters from Cambridge United in 2017 and will be reunited with him in south London.

鈥淣athan told me how great the club is. When I finished up at Luton, I rang him straightaway and wanted to get it going," Berry

"This Charlton team is a really good team. We just need to believe in ourselves, put in the hard work and I can see us doing something special.鈥

Berry made 158 league appearances for Luton, with 17 of them coming in the top flight last season.

He was involved in three promotion-winning seasons at the club as they rose from League Two to the Premier League.

Jones said: 鈥淗e鈥檚 a player I know very well as a character, athlete and footballer.

"It鈥檚 a significant signing for us with the track record that he鈥檚 got of promotions.

"He鈥檚 obviously had three promotions with Luton and that鈥檚 exactly what we鈥檝e brought him in for.

"We鈥檝e fought off a lot of competition to get him and I鈥檓 just pleased that our club and my relationship with him has enabled us to get the signing over the line."
