Republic of Ireland midfielder Denise O'Sullivan has signed a two-year contract extension with her NWSL side the Carolina Courage.

The 30-year-old moved to America in 2017 but had been linked with a return to Europe having previously played on loan for Brighton in the Women's Super League.

The Cork native, who has 109 caps for her country and scored in the win over France this month, called captaining her club "one of the great joys" of her career.

During her time at the Courage, O'Sullivan has won two NWSL Championships, two Challenge Cups and three NWSL Shields.

鈥淲hen I joined, I had no idea how big an impact this club would have on me as a player and a person," she said.

鈥淭he opportunity to serve as captain of this club has been one of the great joys of my professional life, and I am excited to stay and help teach the next wave of players what it means to be a member of the Courage.

"We鈥檝e had a lot of great accomplishments in my time here, but we have much more to do. I鈥檓 excited to get back to work with my girls.鈥
