Former Burnley midfielder Jack Cork has returned to the club in an academy coach/player role.

The 35-year-old left the Clarets at the end of last season after seven years at Turf Moor, having previously spent time on loan from Chelsea.

The one-time England international will now assist under-21s head coach Andy Farrell and occasionally feature for the team.

鈥淚 missed it when I was away for a month or so and it鈥檚 nice to be back in the environment and be back involved in football now,"

鈥淏ecause I鈥檓 new to this, I sometimes join in with some of the sessions which helps as I can see the picture earlier when I鈥檓 in there playing.

鈥淲hen I鈥檓 running around, and I can see it in front of me in the moment, I think people can respond better to what I鈥檓 saying. At the minute, at this stage of my career, it鈥檚 perfect.鈥

Cork's appointment continues a trend of clubs adding a senior pro to their youth-team set-up, with Tom Huddlestone, Paul McShane and now Tommy Rowe fulfilling the role for Manchester United and Olly Lancashire previously doing the same for Southampton.

Cork added: "I鈥檓 not sure how fit I鈥檒l be but maybe when the fixtures pile up in December or certain things happen on the pitch that Faz or me think might help with someone鈥檚 development, maybe for 15 minutes or so, I can come on and play certain parts of the game."
