Blackburn Rovers defender Hayden Carter could miss the rest of the year having had surgery on a knee injury.

The 24-year-old suffered the injury during Rovers' goalless draw with West Bromwich Albion on Wednesday.

Carter, who has made 97 appearances for Rovers in all competitions, underwent surgery and leaves Blackburn with just three fit central defenders in Dominic Hyam, Danny Batth and Kyle McFadzean.

鈥淚 think Hayden鈥檚 going to be out for between two and three months," . 鈥淚t鈥檚 a big low to us, unfortunately.

鈥淲hen I came in last season, Hayden came into the team and did very well. He鈥檚 started this season and has done very well playing in a number of positions.

鈥淚t is what it is. We鈥檝e lost Hayden now and it鈥檚 time for somebody else to step up and be the man, which is what the squad鈥檚 all about.鈥
