Donald hopes to match his win in the par-three event on the eve of the Masters

Luke Donald sank seven birdies on his way to a four-under-par 68 to keep himself in contention after two rounds of the Masters at Augusta.

The Englishman started at level par and picked up three shots in his opening five holes and four on the back nine.

"I made a couple of mistakes but seven birdies is good," he said. "The chip in at 11 got the momentum going and I've given myself a good shot."

Fellow Englishmen Ross Fisher (-4) and Paul Casey (-2) are also going well.

Fisher birdied the last to add a 71 to his opening round of 69 on his third visit to Augusta.

"I'm quietly pleased but at the same time a little disappointed as I didn't play quite as well as Thursday," he said.

"I didn't holes as many putts and I had a reasonably simple chip from just off the green on 13 which I sculled into the water and took six and then battled from there.

"This course is on another level - they cut the fairways in to you so it's difficult to get a good connection and if you get above the hole on the greens it's like putting down a staircase but for two days I've put the ball in good places."

Casey also remains in touch after following his first-round 70 with a level-par 72 however, the world number six, who had three birdies and three bogeys on his card, was far from pleased with his efforts.

"I'm a bit frustrated with my game," he said.

"This golf course is wonderfully prepared and there for the taking if you put the ball in the right place and take your opportunities.

"The longer stuff is where I'm struggling and I need to do some work on the range. This golf course is extremely hard to push on and press because there's lots of dangers out there."
