Tom Lewis gets Walker Cup call-up after Open performance

Tom Lewis has been named in the Britain and Ireland side for the against the United States in September.

The call comes the month after Lewis won the Silver Medal for the Open Championship's best amateur player.

The 20-year-old will play alongside compatriot Stiggy Hodgson who is the only survivor from the team .

Scotland are represented by Michael Stewart and James Byrne and Ireland by Paul Cutler and Alan Dunbar.

Welshman Rhys Pugh is, at 17, the youngest member of the squad.

The other English players are national champion Steven Brown, Jack Senior and Andy Sullivan.

At the Open, Lewis took the amateur title after finishing three shots clear of American rival Peter Uihlein.

Speaking afterwards Lewis said he would be eligible to play in the Walker Cup as he had not yet made up his mind about turning professional.

"I'd love to play in the Walker Cup in September", he said at the time. "I've made every team possible as an amateur, so Walker Cup would be excellent."

The Walker Cup will take place at Royal Aberdeen starting on September 10.
