Hughes is set to be champion jockey for the second time

Brian Hughes has become only the fourth jump jockey to ride 200 winners in a season.

The 36-year-old Northern Irishman brought up the landmark at Perth on 6-4 favourite Dreams Of Home, trained by Donald McCain.

Hughes joins AP McCoy, Richard Johnson and Peter Scudamore in reaching the landmark and was welcomed into the winners' enclosure by colleagues.

He will be crowned champion jockey for the second time on Saturday.

Hughes is nearly 100 winners ahead of nearest rival Sam Twiston-Davies in the jockeys' championship and admitted losing his title to Harry Skelton last term gave him plenty of motivation.

"Last season hurt a lot to get beat. This season I set out with an intention and I gave it a good shot. I owe a huge thanks to everyone's support," he said.

"I've just got my head down, I haven't been complacent all year and I won't start this week. I am hungry for it, last season fuelled me more so. I am more determined and more focused on taking every opportunity."

McCain said: "It's a huge credit to him, he never misses anything, he's the ultimate professional.

"He's as dedicated as anybody I've ever met in the sport, it's full credit to him, it's richly deserved and a mark of honour."

Josh Moore in 'critical care'

Jockey Josh Moore is in critical care at Aintree University Hospital following a fall at Haydock on Saturday.

The rider suffered multiple injuries when parting company with Gleno at the sixth fence.

Moore has had a successful operation on his broken femur, but remains under sedation as a chest infection is stalling his treatment.

A statement from the Injured Jockeys Fund read: "His recovery has been made complicated by a serious chest infection which has required him to stay sedated on the ventilator and has delayed definitive treatment of his injuries.

"The specialist medical team are working hard to treat Josh, and his family remain by his bedside."
