Hull City owner Assem Allam's 拢1m gift to Super League club Hull Kingston Rovers was made because he realised he had "done nothing for east Hull".

Allam has insisted the donation be used for stadium improvements and strengthening the playing staff.

"Everything I'd done [up to now] happened to be in west Hull," he told 大象传媒 Radio Humberside.

"I had a meeting with Karl Turner, the MP for Hull East, and he lobbied the idea of investing in Hull KR."

He added: "Mr Turner said I had done nothing for east Hull, and all of a sudden I woke up to reality. He made me start thinking."

Last December Allam, who since moving to East Yorkshire from Egypt in 1968 has built up a business fortune eastimated to be worth at least 拢150m, rescued Hull City from almost certain administration by making a 拢30m investment and guaranteeing debts of 拢10m.
