Challenge Cup: Catalan Dragons 92-8 York

York were thoroughly outclassed by Super League side Catalan Dragons in their Challenge Cup fifth-round clash.

Tom Carr's penalty gave York the lead but a Kevin Larroyer hat-trick and a brace from full-back Morgan Escare made it 46-2 to Catalans at half-time.

The onslaught continued after the break as the Dragons scored four more tries before Kris Brining slid over for a consolation and Carr added the extras.

The respite was temporary as four more Catalans scores completed the rout.

Despite their early lead, York never threatened an upset as they could not cope with the pace and power of their Super League opponents.

Escare completed his hat-trick at the start of the second-half but finally York had something to celebrate as Brining slid over to score.

After the elation of registering a try, York were running on empty in the final 20 minutes as Catalans continued to score at will as Zeb Taia, two tries from Remi Casty and one from William Barthau took their points tally beyond 90.

Catalans now progress to the last eight as they bid to win the Challenge Cup for the first time in their history.

Catalan Dragons coach Laurent Frayssinous:

"I'm very happy because we needed to bounce back today from our poor performance last week against Wakefield and we were very hard on the players this week.

"We told them that they had to respect the opposition no matter who we play and that we had to bounce back.

"I'm happy with the scoreboard but really happy with the performance."
