Hull KR were consigned to The Qualifiers with a defeat in their penultimate Super League match at home to in-form Warrington Wolves.

Mike Cooper, Stefan Ratchford, Tyrone Roberts, Toby King, Kevin Brown and Declan Patton all crossed for Wolves.

Rovers had led briefly through Elliot Wallis' first-half double before Robbie Mulhern and Chris Atkin went over too.

But victory saw Warrington move up to third, as Castleford lost at home to Huddersfield Giants to slip to fourth.

The hosts had still held faint hopes of earning a Super 8s spot before kick-off, but needed to beat Warrington and then win away at Hull FC on Friday, 27 July as well as hoping that other results went their way.

Rovers were on a much-needed three-game winning run prior to facing the Wire, but were without injured duo Justin Carney (ankle) and Joel Tomkins (knee).

After strong spells from Warrington either side of half-time, the hosts had hope of pulling off a fine comeback when Atkin's score under the posts was converted by Danny Tickle to reduce the deficit to two points at 20-22.

But the Wolves finished the stronger to claim their 14th win from 22 Super League games so far this year.
