Joe Burgess: Hull KR sign winger after Salford Red Devils release
- Published
Winger Joe Burgess has joined Hull KR on a one-year deal after he was released by Salford Red Devils, following an internal investigation.
The 29-year-old scored 23 tries in 54 Red Devils games but left after his conduct was deemed "not consistent" with Salford's expected standards.
Burgess will now link up with the Robins on their pre-season warm-up camp in Tenerife.
"Joe is an out and out winger," Hull KR boss Willie Peters said.
"He's a big body and known for his speed. What I like about Joe is the feedback I've got of him as a person, it's all been very positive from the players he's played with.
"That's extremely important to us at Hull KR and him going to Tenerife will only build those connections with his team-mates."
Burgess joins a squad bolstered by several stand-out backline players such as ex-Wigan team-mate Oliver Gildart, New Zealand international Peta Hiku, and ex-Castleford and Salford full-back Niall Evalds - while existing talent such as Ryan Hall and Tom Opacic also remain.
"Gilly [Gildart] is my best mate, so I'm looking forward to linking up with him again," Burgess said. "I've played with the skipper, Mini [Elliot Minchella], Sam Luckley at Salford and they're all a great set of lads.
"That's what it's all about, working hard for a good group of lads."
Meanwhile, with Ken Sio's return to Australia this winter, Salford have lost both their front-line wingers from last year for the 2024 campaign, although Ethan Ryan and Nene Macdonald have bolstered their outside-back options.
