Wigan Warriors half-back Harry Smith will miss Saturday's Magic Weekend derby against St Helens after being suspended for three games following his red card against Leeds.

Smith was sent off in the final minutes of Wigan's 30-4 defeat by Rhinos last weekend, for a deliberate elbow into the face of Leeds' James Bentley in a tackle.

He has been found guilty of a grade E charge of striking by the disciplinary panel and also fined £750.

A statement said the panel took into account the "player's remorse and his previous very good disciplinary record".

The 24-year-old will also be unavailable for Wigan's Super League game at home to Hull FC on 25 August and away to Catalans Dragons on 31 August.

St Helens forward Morgan Knowles will also miss Magic Weekend after being given a two-match ban, along with Leigh Leopards winger Josh Charnley who has been handed a one-game suspension.
