Kyle Amor has taken over as Whitehaven鈥檚 new head coach.

The former St Helens prop is returning to his first professional club and will succeed Jonty Gorley, who resigned on Sunday following their 28-24 win against Doncaster.

Amor, 37, started his career with the Cumbrian side, who are currently battling for their Championship survival, second from bottom of the table.

He had spells at Leeds Rhinos, Wakefield, Saints, Warrington and Widnes and also represented Ireland on the international stage.

Since retiring from the professional game Amor has become a popular pundit on Sky Sports' Super League coverage.

Gorley cited a threadbare squad and suggested his position had become 鈥渦ntenable鈥 when announcing his decision to quit after two years in charge.
