Wales hooker Huw Bennett looks to have played his last game for the Ospreys after being ruled out for the rest of the season.

The hooker is set for surgery on an Achilles tendon injury which he picked up playing for Wales against Scotland in the Six Nations.

With the recovery period set for up to 12 weeks Bennett could be a doubt for Wales' tour to Australia in June.

After this season Bennett is set to join French club Lyon.

"Despite undergoing a period of intense rehabilitation work Huw has failed to recover from the Achilles injury," said Ospreys physio Chris Towers.

"And as such, the best course of action for him is to undergo surgery.

"He will be treated this week, before commencing his post-op rehab programme with the Ospreys.

"At this stage we are looking at an eight to 12 week period for Huw to complete his rehabilitation following the operation.

"We will be working in close conjunction with the WRU medical team throughout."

Bennett confirmed on Twitter he was joining Lyon at the end of the season.

Bennett will join former Ospreys Mike Phillips, James Hook and Lee Byrne in French rugby.

"Looking forward to my new challenge of playing in France with Lyon. Until then I am fully [committed] to ending the season on a high," he tweeted.

"I want to thank [the Ospreys] and our awesome supporters for a fantastic nine years."
