Wasps director of rugby Dai Young has signed a new contract extension, tying him to the Premiership club until 2019.

The 47-year-old, who left Cardiff Blues to join Wasps in June 2011, led them to seventh in the league last season.

Since their move to Coventry, Wasps have risen to fourth in the table.

"We're thrilled to secure his expertise and leadership for the foreseeable future," said chief executive Nick Eastwood. "I'm grateful he's committed his long-term future to us."

Young, whose initial four-year deal was due to expire in the summer, led his side to qualification for this season's European Champions Cup after they beat Stade Francais in a two-legged play-off in May.

"I am very pleased to have extended my contract and am excited about the squad we are building here," said the former Wales and Lions prop, who also spent six years in rugby league.

"It's fantastic to see so many of our current squad committing to the club and being excited to be part of Wasps' future.

"I truly believe we have the potential to develop into a top-four team over the next couple of seasons and we hope to be in a position to announce some new signings in the next couple of weeks."
