Daniel Wiffen has joked that he "feels like Simone Biles" after his first Olympic gold medal brought him some newfound fame.

Wiffen won Team Ireland's first gold of the Paris Games when he triumphed in a thrilling 800 metre freestyle final on Tuesday.

In doing so, he also became the first athlete from Northern Ireland to win an Olympic gold medal in 36 years.

Wiffen said his success has brought him plenty of new attention, which led him to compare himself to the USA's superstar gymnast Simone Biles, who won her third gold of the Games on Saturday.

"I actually think I'm probably like one of the most famous Olympic champions," the 23-year-old said.

"I've got a distinct look about me because I think every sport comes up to me in the dining hall and asks for photos.

"I feel like Simone Biles."

When asked if he was enjoying being recognised, Wiffen said: "Yeah, I like it"

"I mean, why not? It's pretty cool."

He also said that he's had "five hundred" photos taken with him since his win.

"I've been signing autographs and everything.

"They wait outside my building when I come out for breakfast for photos."

Wiffen will look to secure a historic second gold medal when he competes in the 1500m freestyle final at La Defense Arena at 17:37 BST.

It's all over at the archery for Team GB, where their final remaining respresentative Tom Hall has been knocked out in the men's round of 16.

The 33-year-old from Kenilworth, Warwickshire put up a good fight against the third-ranked Florian Unruh of Germany though, so nearly forcing a shoot-off.

Unruh led 5-1 after three sets, but Hall won the fourth 27-26 with three nines - one of which had to be checked by judges as it was right on the boundary between eight and nine - to keep the match alive.

In the fifth and final set, Hall and Unruh both shot 19 after two arrows - but the Brit was wayward with his third to hit eight, while the German struck nine to pull through.

Reaching the round of 16 was a good result for Dean, as he came into Paris as the 51st ranked archer out of the 64 male competitors.

But his loss means there are no British representatives remaining in archery, a sport in which Team GB have not won an Olympic medal since 2004.

Saturday's swim familiarisation for Monday's mixed team triathlon was cancelled by organisers over an expected drop in water quality.

Paris 2024 organisers said on Friday they made their decision following "heavy rain over the last two nights which have been particularly intense upstream of Paris".

Last week's men's triathlon was postponed a day after poor water quality in the River Seine.

Another familiarisation swim is set for Sunday at 07:00 BST.

Team GB have selected Alex Yee, Georgia Taylor Brown, Sam Dickinson and Beth Potter for Monday's event which can be pushed back to Tuesday as a contingency.
