Ross Paterson's Scotland rink will play for bronze at the European Curling Championships after losing their semi-final to Sweden.

The host nation remain unbeaten in Helsingborg and were always in charge during their 8-4 success.

The Swedes are current world champions and skip Niklas Edin is aiming for his seventh European gold medal.

Scotland will meet Denmark in the battle for third place, with Switzerland in the final.

The Swiss, led by tournament rookie Yannick Schwaller, beat the Danes 8-5.

Edin, who lost to Scotland's Bruce Mouat in last year's final, opened up a 3-0 lead after two ends.

Paterson hit back with a two in the fifth end to trail 4-3 but the hosts claimed twos of their own in the seventh and ninth ends to wrap up victory.

Denmark beat Scotland 6-5 in the fifth session of the round-robin phase.

Eve Muirhead's Scotland rink take on Switzerland in Friday's semi-finals of the women's event.
