Great Britain's Lewis Gibson and Lilah Fear won silver for a second consecutive year in the ice dance at the European Figure Skating Championships in Lithuania.

The pair were second going into the final event, behind defending champions Charlene Guignard and Marco Fabbri.

But they couldn't topple the Italians, who won gold in retaining the title.

"We managed the stress of the competition and are super happy," said Fabbri.

The Italians' victory means Great Britain's 29-year-wait for a gold in the ice dance goes on after Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean's 1994 triumph in Copenhagen.

A season's best of 85.20 in the rhythm dance on Friday put Fear and Gibson narrowly behind Guignard and Fabbri, who led with a score of 86.80 going into Saturday.

Their Rocky-themed free dance saw the British pair score 125.62, giving them a 210.82 total.

Guignard and Fabbri finished first in the free dance with a score of 127.58, handing them a winning total of 214.38.

Allison Reed and Saulius Ambruvelicius, skating in front of their home crowd, delighted locals by taking bronze.
