Oakamoor Station was on the North Rode to Uttoxeter "Churnet Valley Line" not the Leek & Manifold Line which was a separate narrow guage line which started at Waterhouses at the end of the Leekbrook to Cauldon Low Line and travelled through the valley of the River Manifold terminating at Hulme End.

Pic no 15 is the old line from Cresswell to Cheadle. The track is in situ on quite a lot of the line, but it is very overgrown.

Hi. In the late fifties early sixties my girlfriend and I used to walk regularly from leek road,Abbey- Hulton to the top of birches head road where there was a seat that gave a great view over Abbey hulton. This meant crossing the canal bridge and the railway crossing often having to wait until a steam-train went by. There used to be a railway crossing house, is it still there? The photo's don't show the right angle to check.

Hi Lon.As regards Photo No15 at Cresswell !I Don't know where you took this photo exactly but it might be the old railway line to Cheadle !This line and an older line joined the main line at Cresswell.You can see the line at Topmans low ( Station ) on the right!On the road to Tean from Dracott.Regards DAZ.

The caption to the photo of the old platform at Oakamoor is incorrect. Originally openend to traffic on 13 July 1849, Oakamoor station was on the North Staffordshire Railway's 'Churnet Valley' line which ran between North Rode and Uttoxeter. Oakamoor staion stands between Kingsley & Froghall station (on the present-day Churnet Valley Railway heritage line) and Alton Towers station.

There's some good news about a reappearing railway. The Rugeley Trent Valley to Walsall line was shut by Beeching, but has since been reopened showing the folly of the excessive closures in the 1960s. It's been so successful that with effect from December 14th there will be additional services including evening services – at present the last weekday service leaves Birmingham New Street at 6.12 pm.From Rugeley Town Station on this line the Brereton Collieries Railway has (more or less) become the Brereton and Ravenhill Way.

Barlaston Station was known in the 50s and 60s as Barlaston and Tittensor. Nearby Wedgwood station is about three quarters of a mile north of Barlaston Station and it has timber platforms on concrete plinths. Trains do not stop at either station but there are plans to reopen Stone station. When I lived in Tittensor in the 1970s I would sometimes walk to Barlaston to catch a train to Manchester where I worked. I still have a one of my weekly season tickets from Barlaston to manchester.

Believe that this is Barlaston station, not Wedgwood (which is about 1 mile north). When I travelled through (for 22 years) Wedgwood Halt had no brick buildings, and Barlaston still did - just! I don't know if the 'no trains' applies to Barlaston as well.
