Tonight was ladies night as the girls danced together for the last time before they start competing against the boys. So would they be able to hold their nerve to perform two tricky dances in front of a live audience?
Kicking off the show with a Quickstep were Christine & Matthew dancing to She's So Lovely. Len said he liked the footwork, but didn't enjoy the stage dancing. Bruno said Christine captured the high-spiritedness of the dance but sometimes she got "carried away with the liveliness". Craig disagreed and said he loved the opening as it let her "cheekiness and elegance" shine through. Arlene said sadly the dance "didn't quite have quite the sparkle" she was looking for.Scores: Craig 6, Arlene 6, Len 7, Bruno 7. Total 26.
Up next were Jodie & Ian performing a Rumba to I Just Can't Stop Loving You. Jodie was looking to bring more emotion to the dance but the judges felt she didn't express herself enough. Len said he didn't see any emotion. Bruno said she was great to look at but kept stalling. Craig thought the start was good, but said it was "almost pornographic" at the top and that Jodie's self consciousness was a problem. Arlene said although Jodie managed to control Ian at the beginning, the ""ice maiden"" came back and she looked more like a vogue model.
Scores: Craig 4, Arlene 6, Len 6, Bruno 6. Total 22.
Last week Heather was queen of the Salsa. This week she was hoping to become the queen of Quickstep, dancing with Ian to Old Man Time. Bruno said it was too tight and "didn't quite work for him". Craig said he was in two minds - that it wasn't great technically but he loved the energy and loved watching her. Arlene wasn't impressed and said it was "heavy, like champagne that had gone flat" and that Heather was clinging on too much. Len disagreed and said her frame was good but he didn't like her footwork.
Scores: Craig 6, Arlene 5, Len 6, Bruno 6. Total 23.
Cherie & James took to the floor next to dance the Rumba to Songbird. Under pressure from topping the leader board in the first week, Cherie and James pulled out all of the stops and the judges were almost lost for words. Craig said, "Every single inch of you worked that dance. Fabulous!". Arlene said she had a lump in her throat and she'd never seen James dance so tenderly. Len said there was definitely emotion in this Rumba, but that once or twice Cherie lost musicality in her arm. Bruno said it was "a cut above" everything he'd seen so far.
Scores: Craig 9, Arlene 9, Len 8, Bruno 9. Total 35.
Next up were Jessie & Darren dancing the Quickstep to Help. Arlene said Jessie had to make sure she was ruling her shoes rather than the other way round. Len found her posture wrong and said Jessie needed to "move her bosom away from Darren". Bruno agreed and said that once the posture goes everything else falls to pieces. Craig agreed with the other judges and summed up with, "Not your finest hour sadly".
Scores: Craig 3, Arlene 5, Len 5, Bruno 6. Total 19.
Up sixth were Lisa & Brendan dancing the Rumba to Suddenly. Last week Brendan was upset with the judges harsh comments. Would he be happier this week? Absolutely! Bruno said Lisa had "plenty of juice" with "killer looks and presence to match". Craig congratulated Brendan on his choreography and said it was a fantastic routine, just occasionally Lisa's nerves went into her footwork. Last week Arlene said Lisa looked like an English rose with no hip action, this week she said "you've changed all that - it was come to me, hold me, touch me, feel me". Len said, "Feet were great, you got it from the right place."
Scores: Craig 8, Arlene 8, Len 8, Bruno 8. Total 32.
The final couple to take to the dance floor this week were Rachel & Vincent performing the Quickstep to Little Green Bag and it went down a storm. "Light, bright tight, I loved it," said Craig. "Fast, fleet-footed, you two are the perfect package," agreed Arlene. Len was unsure about the slow start but said once the couple took hold it was "fantastic". Bruno said the couple were "flying high" and it was the best quickstep of the night.
Scores: Craig 8, Arlene 8, Len 9, Bruno 8. Total 33.
The boys rounded off the night with a Rueda. The audience loved it. The judges seemed to be smiling all the way through and picked out Austin and Tom as the ones to watch. We'll have to wait to see how the rest of the boys fare when they compete against the ladies for the first time next week.
So, Jessie, Jodie and Heather are the lowest rated by the judges. Tune in at 8.15pm on Sunday to find out which couple will be leaving the show.
