Live ReviewsYou are in: Suffolk > Entertainment > Music > Introducing > Reviews > Live Reviews > Rosalita @ The Premier Pool Club Rosalita @ The Premier Pool ClubBy Laura Jacobs Ominous, Rosalita, Sonic Funk and Ip-spit got together to perform a packed show at the Premier Pool Club. The first act of the night, Sonic Funk provided a strong mix of bass riffs and drum beats, creating their funky sound with fast rap-style vocals.
The next performance of the night was Pikey and his friends from Ip-spit beat boxing. The crowd responded well, joining in with enthusiastic hands pushing towards the ceiling to the beat. It’s amazing what Pikey can do with his voice, mixing drum beats, bass lines and lyrics at the same time. To amaze the crowds some more, he got his friend on stage to freestyle using random words from the audience, a true talent! By working well with the crowd they managed to get at least 70 kids jumping and pumping hands. To my surprise, Rosalita were up next. Being in my opinion the best band on offer that night I would have expected them to round off the night, but perhaps Ominous had the vote from others. Kris, Rosalita Rosalita kicked off their set with real enthusiasm, which certainly got me jumping straight away. Second up was Manga Girl, an instant hit with the crowd with bassist Jay’s serious looks giving great stage presence. Meanwhile, vocalist, Kris energetically jumped around to the melodic tune. His energy wasn't appreciated by the Ominous guitarist who created an unwelcome interruption shouting words [some not very polite!] towards Kris for jumping on his pedals. A polite ‘Watch my gear dude,’ would have done the job and Kris was clearly affected for a while. He continued with a static pose, but soon the music had him jumping again joining the mosh-pit and generally letting himself go. Ben on keyboards also helped the entertainment with his various creative moves! Rosalita had the whole place jumping and you have to wonder why they don't have a record deal yet. Ominous were up last with a much more heavy sound. I didn't give them my full attention as I was still annoyed at the over the top reaction of their guitarist during the Rosalita set. What I did listen to was not very inspiring with a passionless performance from the lead singer and not much crowd interaction. I had a great night and I think the audience agreed with me, even with the blip. Watch out for Rosalita, they have more gigs in Ipswich booked for April and are sure to gain an even bigger fan base. last updated: 16/07/2008 at 11:41 Have Your Say
