For one couple, the question now is "Shall we take the children?" The answer is a resounding "Yes!"

Richard's been going to gigs and festivals all his life. Now that he's a father of four, he's reconsidered his options and decided he's not going to sit at home in Elsenham, Essex and miss out. Along with his wife Aileen, they've loaded up the campervan and taken Jamie (17), Ewan (15), Jessie (12) and Fraser (8) to the Latitude Festival at Henham Park near Southwold. As well as watching the music, comedians, theatre, poetry and more, they've spent a lot of time in the children's area and generally just taking in the atmosphere of another (reasonably) sunny weekend. Richard Smith said: "We came last year and it was more of a gamble. This year we're better prepared. "The facilities are much better for children this year. The kids really enjoyed the variety of acts on - British Sea Power, Nizlopi, The Go! Team. "We have got a caravan, so we're cheating a bit. It's not very luxurious, but we're off the ground and we are out of the weather if it does rain." Aileen said: "The toilets are much better this year." "We've got a 'cassette' toilet, but I have to empty it, so I prefer it if the kids use the facilities on site." added Richard. "They're proper flushing toilets, a tuck shop and solar-powered showers." So how do they choose which stages to go to? Richard said: "I think there's common ground, but if you have too strict an itinerary I think you miss out on the ethos of the whole thing. You miss out on the 'happy accidents'. "We were walking through the woods and there was a performance among the trees of Hamlet and the place was heaving. My two older children have been at the comedy tent all day hoping to see Bill Bailey. "We'll meet up with them later and we'll have had completely different experiences, but we'll see the bands we all want to see later." last updated: 29/07/2008 at 13:09 SEE ALSO
