Dancers in NeedYou are in: Suffolk > Children in Need > Dancers in Need > Dancers in Need blog: Wednesday, 15 October Foz and Christine Dancers in Need blog: Wednesday, 15 OctoberBy Stephen Foster Who'd have thought it? The Fozmeister strutting his stuff on the dance floor. Certainly not me. I used to cut a rug in the disco days of the 1970s but even that had to be seen to be believed. It certainly didn't give John Travolta any sleepless nights. To say I'm a novice dancer would be an insult to novices everywhere. Prior to last Thursday the closest I'd come to the Ipswich School of Dancing was driving past it, so imagine my shock to find out that I'd be getting to know the Bond Street premises quite well. It was with some, no make that a lot, of trepidation that I made my way in. There to meet me was my dancing partner Christine Mutton, from Cotton near Stowmarket. Chris and the staff there could not have made me more welcome and before I knew it I was attempting the first few steps of a waltz. Just as I was getting my bearings it was time for the cha cha cha but poor old Foz's hips just wouldn't move. Thankfully Chris has the patience of an angel along with the ability to keep a straight face (at least for some of the time). By the end of my first session I was really enjoying myself. Quite what Chris has let herself in for I don't know but one thing's for sure we're both determined to enjoy ourselves and, dare I say it, win the competition. Foz is Bragging againJust as I was leaving Chris revealed to me that the Bard of Barking Billy Bragg is her nephew. I'm a big fan of his and, who knows, he might even invite us up on stage to dance to one of his songs when he appears at the Ipswich Corn Exchange next month! After all Chris and I will be a seasoned dancing duo by then... I hope. Less than 24 hours after my introduction to the world of ballroom I was back for more, still wearing my totally inappropriate designer boots but determined to make sure my only trip is the one that takes me to the light fantastic. Next up was a group class on Sunday evening. Swapping a Touch Of Frost for a touch of quickstep I soon found myself skipping across the dance floor although not exactly in sync with Chris. In fact, I wasn't even in sync with myself but we had a laugh. Hopefully by the time I write my next blog I'll have found some dancing shoes and a sense of rhythm. I only hope I can do Chris's 30 years of ballroom dancing justice. Chris has a sense of humour to match her expertise on the dance floor. I think she's going to need it.听听 last updated: 13/11/2008 at 01:10 Have Your Say
