It is a great shame the Guildhall oak beam have been lime-washed and it is not true to say it would not have lasted without it. For many many years it was not lime washed and take a look at the Swan Hotel. What a difference!

The description of the buildings could be more precise and interesting. Why not call the Crooked House the Crooked House and not `timber framed building'.The Swan need not just be a timber framed building, they are both well known individually.

This gem of a town really is special hidden away in the Suffolk countryside. Its narrow streets and over hanging buildings just ooze history. Its unique medievil square overlooked by the guildhall is straight out of a museum and you can just imagine our fore-fathers going about their business there. The majastic crooket Swan hotel and impressive church on the hill all go to make it a special place..we are lucky they dont charge us to take a trip down history lane there! CALLEN [The Voice]

I spent a lot of my younger years visiting Lavenham when I lived in Bury St. Edmunds; I know the town well. I feel the picture gallery missed so many beautiful buildings that makes Lavenham a jewel in Suffolk's crown. However, your gallery gave me a yearning to return, soon. Thank you. From Jersey.

How lovely Lavenham is and so typical of West Suffolk. May those who care for it continue to so do

I think that Rick Arnold is missing the point about the beams on the Guild Hall. They have been Lime-washed which is the traditional way of treating the exposed surfaces of medieval buildings. Exposed beams would not have lasted down through the years. The "gaudy" colours of the houses are all Suffolk colours and traditionally were also put on as a lime wash - which requires many coats, and is not as weather resistant as modern emulsion paints which are tending to replace it.

This oasis was santuray for two years of my life. The town centre is still as wonderful but the surrounding new building are not sympathetic to the beauty of this special place Your pictures make me wish That should never have left.

Rick Arnold
There are some beautiful old buildings in Lavenham, it's a great shame to see them defaced with gordy colours, and who ever thought of painting out the character of the Guild Hall and destroying it's original beauty by painting the oak beams white. I suppose they will want to Artex it inside next and put in plastic double glazing and doors. Left as it is now, all white on the outside renders that beautiful bit of our heritage vurtually unrecognisable, I am sorry to say, but that building now, could be anywhere in the UK. It's a shame on the local authority to allow it's appearance to be changed like this.

It would be nice if your "next" photo button stayed in the same place as one selects successive photos. Either that or a slide show button! Enjoyed the Lavenham pictures. A friend was telling us about it so we wanted to see.. Thank you

Some beautiful pictures, it's good to see that Lavenham is getting some of the attention it deserves.
