There
can be little in this life that unites Boy George, mariachi music,
Strokes producer Gordon Raphael and New Zealand. But it's a testament
to Blair Jollands' vision and verve that he's spanned those particular
divides. The result is a new album, which reflects a life, a voice,
and an outlook much less ordinary than most.
A
little over a year ago "El Hula" formed as a band, recruiting
the services of Tom Pi, (upright bass), JJ Jones (drums) and fellow
kiwi Rhys Hughes (guitar). They will be doing a national UK tour
throughout July supporting their critically acclaimed album "Violent
Love" which is out now.

Hula played at 2003's Ipswich Music Day. Yoxford-based
drummer Chris "JJ" Jones had this to say about playing:
I
think its going to be a lot of fun and there are some fab acts playing
on the EADT stage and the 大象传媒 Radio Suffolk stage. A gig of this
size is not an easy thing to organise, so we should congratulate
Ipswich Council, Tony Shevlin at EADT, Stephen Foster at the 大象传媒
Radio Suffolk, Paul Burrows at the MU and The Grapevine and the
many others that do this for us all to enjoy and support them by
attending on the day.

It's
a real treat to be playing at the Ipswich Music Day in the park
on 6th July. Ipswich is only down the road from where I live. So
having played gigs all around the world it's great to know that
there are festivals going on right in your back yard.
So
it's right that we all support that, whether we go to watch or to
play or both. I'm proud to live in Suffolk and have some terrific
friends that live here in Yoxford and we're all looking forward
to going down to Christchurch Park on Sunday 6th July, and I certainly
hope that people will come up and say hello to "El Hula"
as that's what we do when we're on stage and that's what it's about
- saying hello and making new friends, lets all get together and
party.
