Atching Tan, a Romany phrase meaning 'stopping place', looks at the relationship between the settled and the travelling communities and deals with the issues and challenges that arise when they come together. Luke Deal will be broadcasting Atching Tan on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3.30pm. Atching Tan Feuding familiesThe Arkleys are a Romany Gypsy family who own a piece of land on the outskirts of a small village in East Anglia. The Gannons are a part-Romany part-Irish traveller family who also live in the village. There are high levels of crime in the area and anger among residents is already at fever pitch when a third family of gypsies, the Bucktons, move into the area. All hell breaks loose in the local community with some residents threatening to take the law into their own hands. Romany Theatre CompanyThe drama is produced by the Romany Theatre Company who were established in 2002 to increase public awareness about Romany people and culture. It also helps people from Roma and non-Roma communities learn more about each other through performing arts and other positive experiences. The actors are travellers themselves and the drama was recorded in a caravan to make it sound as authentic as possible.
