Rehearsing for Atching Tan

Stop and listen to Atching Tan

Vigilantes and families at war are par for the course in 大象传媒 Suffolk's powerful new radio drama - Atching Tan.

Atching Tan, a Romany phrase meaning 'stopping place', looks at the relationship between the settled and the travelling communities and deals with the issues and challenges that arise when they come together.

Luke Deal will be broadcasting Atching Tan on Mondays, Tuesdays and Wednesdays at 3.30pm.

Atching Tan - one story, many journeys

Atching Tan

Feuding families

The Arkleys are a Romany Gypsy family who own a piece of land on the outskirts of a small village in East Anglia. The Gannons are a part-Romany part-Irish traveller family who also live in the village.

There are high levels of crime in the area and anger among residents is already at fever pitch when a third family of gypsies, the Bucktons, move into the area.

All hell breaks loose in the local community with some residents threatening to take the law into their own hands.

Romany Theatre Company

The drama is produced by the Romany Theatre Company who were established in 2002 to increase public awareness about Romany people and culture.

It also helps people from Roma and non-Roma communities learn more about each other through performing arts and other positive experiences.

The actors are travellers themselves and the drama was recorded in a caravan to make it sound as authentic as possible.

Will you be putting on the last episode on line, I have been following the series on line as I can't hear it during the day on the radio. I would be ashame to miss the last episode.

I think it's been really interesting. This week made me angry when the gavvers just came in heavy handed, jumping in not even giving the respect they've give a dog.You would give any animal a drink, it's realistic but will it change anything
