The Slave

We join a British slave as she readies the home of her Roman master and mistress in time for their return. Nicia is 30 years old and is one of the most important slaves in the household. We join Nicia on a tour of the villa as she checks that everything is ready for her masters' imminent return. First stop: the atrium - the centre of the villa. There is a fountain and Nicia describes a new mosaic that a crafsman is making.

Then on to the kitchen, where preparations for the evening meal are well underway. A warm bath is being run for the lady of the villa, in case she wishes to bathe immediately on her return.

There's a problem in the children's bedroom, where the pet monkey has been left off its lead and has caused a mess.

And finally Nicia is outside the villa where she is just checking that lucky charms have been placed when she hears a horse and carriage announcing the return of the master and mistress.
