Rhyme/song
Jack and Jill
Went up the hill
To fetch a pail of water
Jack fell down
And broke his crown,
And Jill came running after.
Up Jack got
And home did trot,
As fast as he could caper;
And went to bed
And plastered his head
With vinegar and brown paper.
Story - Diddle, Diddle, Dumpling my son John
To hold attention and to help engage the children you can show pictures and artefacts, such as a cow, a cockerel, hill, horse, well, sheep etc. On second listening, encourage the children to retell the story using the props to help with the story sequence.
Comprehension questions after story
