Post Caernarvon gig
The Pocket Gods | The Pocket Gods are the brainchild of singer songwriter Mark C Lee, who plays and sings all the tracks along with help from other guest musicians in his groovy kitchen situated in the Vale of Nub Country - otherwise known as somewhere near St Albans! The Pocket Gods had a track played on the Huw Stephens show on Radio One on 10 May 2006. |
After the hurly burly of the previous week it has been a bit less frantic this week but we鈥檙e all still on board this rock 'n' roll rollercoaster - although there are a few more lows on this week's ride. After the gig at the Caernarvon Castle the French Record Label guy said he would be in touch but a week later we鈥檙e still waiting to hear from him 鈥 collective alarm bells have been set off. Tuesday 10 October 2006 We decide to pursue other contacts in the meantime and try and be patient. I got a nice email from Radio 1 Onemusic producer 鈥 Louise Kattenhorn who used to be John Peel鈥檚 producer 鈥 who says they are going to play the ep 鈥 so that in the words of my wife 鈥 Claire 鈥 is 鈥渜uite good!鈥 Also getting good feedback from this column. I even had a long lost university friend and my first ever drummer get in touch after reading the Website 鈥 and we also have the whole of Sandridge talking about us - next it鈥檒l be Paparazzi hanging outside Darby鈥檚 Stores.. Thursday 12 October 2006 Have had more responses from the mp3 mail out I did to our various contacts 鈥 we have been booked to do a radio interview on some ultra cool LA indie show on November 10 鈥 at midnight - will have to get the pro-plus out for that! Saturday 14 October 2006 Annie is back over and we鈥檙e rehearsing for Tuesday night at the Boot 鈥 wife Claire joins in jam sesh on bass. Although it's acoustic we do have the most understanding neighbours in universe! It's back down to The Green Man later to discuss 鈥渢actics鈥 - think we鈥檒l play the Horn tomorrow! Sunday 15 October 2006 No rest听 for the PGs 鈥 the bells are John Peeling again and it's time to start work on our Christmas song. We have been asked by indie label Cherryade Records (who currently are home to NME鈥檚 fave new band The Bobby McGees) to record an Xmas song for their annual compilation 鈥 other bands on it will be Dawn of the Replicants and the Fall 鈥 so should be worth doing .... OK - so far all we have is a title (thanks to me Mother-in-Law!) Jombal Bells 鈥 and a few chords - oh well it鈥檚 a start! But I might have to get the Phil Spector vinyl out for inspiration! Eve Down the Blue Angel again 鈥 where we do a version of Telstar Gurl which is more ropey than The Tug of War World Championships 鈥 but manage to salvage our rock 'n' roll pride with a storming VVBUD - my old friend Joel came up afterwards and said 鈥測our strange鈥 - Yep! Monday 16 October 2006 Things are hotting up! We have emails from various publishers and management companies and have been offered gigs at the Barfly and the Dirty Water Club (Billy Childish hangout) in London. Also have a label based in the States wanting to release the EP 鈥 sounds promising as they key to releasing anything is distribution 鈥 and they have distribution through I Tunes, Amazon and HMV and Virgin - will keep you posted. Artwork is finished thanks to Fred, Annie and Claire! Wednesday 18 October 2006 Still no news from the French label - starting to get a bad feeling about them now. It's a good job we delayed signing the contract - just can鈥檛 get hold of them. Oh well, we鈥檒l cheer ourselves up for tonight鈥檚 show. We get there at 8.00pm and all our friends from The Green Man have come down - time for a few swift halves and we鈥檙e up! It's a stormin' set even the risqu茅 stuff went down well and we got the pub singing along to 鈥淟ove Pump鈥, but we still need a scale model of Stonehenge though! After a couple of post gig beers we decide to head back to The Green Man in Sandridge .... Mike the landlord spies our guitars and Johnny fancies a jam with the Gods - an impromptu sesh commences, the beer flows, everyone is singing and there鈥檚 no sign of Fleetwood Mac 鈥 we all end up crooning along to 鈥淢y Next High鈥 (PGs equivalent of Angels!) before last orders is rung and slumber beckons us all and our rock 'n' roll dreams are starting to come true. Next Do the French label break our hearts? Who will release the EP? Christmas song update More PGs on Radio And who is Hong Kong Phooey? |
