As war is declared, the King directly addresses his people both at home and overseas. He describes the coming fight as one for justice and peace against bondage and fear, and calls for all the citizens of Britain and the Commonwealth to stand firm in the dark days ahead. The King mentions that this is the second war most of his subjects will have lived through. He had served in World War One himself, seeing action as a turret officer aboard HMS Collingwood during the Battle of Jutland.
