"It was almost certainly half-empty when we reached home."

Transcript

"I was given this commemorative cup to celebrate the centenary of Crindau Junior School.

I attended the junior school in 1946 when sweets were still rationed. Instead of sweets we could buy liquorice root and for a ha'penny we could purchase an Oxo cube which we licked like a lolly or a halfpenny cob.

I sometimes took a two ounce coupon to Mrs Dee's corner shop to buy sweets. The lollipop man, Knocker, Mr Knockerfeli, stopped his tricycle outside the school gates and sold penny ice lollies.

The most vivid memory was being asked to take an empty jam jar to school where it was filled up with powdered chocolate and almost certainly half empty when we reached home."
